Regional Languages Action Plan
Following the publication and adoption of the Regional Languages Strategy, the Board of Advantage West Midlands (AWM) requested the development of an action plan that would outline how the strategy would be implemented.
That plan was then developed in collaboration with a wide range of regional partners embracing business organisations such as the CBI, UKTI and the British Chambers, government bodies such as the Regional Assembly and the Government Office, educational institutions including all of the West Midlands Universities and the Association of Colleges. It was finally approved in March 2005 by the Executive Group formed by AWM to pilot the languages strategy and will now go forward to the AWM Board.
As with the strategy document, the plan is presented in four sections one each for exporters, inward investment, education and social and economic inclusion. Given the uncertainty over sources and levels of funding the plan has been kept at the conceptual level with no specifics on timing or cost. Nevertheless, it provides a clear road map for the achievement of the region’s language goals over the coming several years.
