Advanced Crusher Spares Ltd
Advanced Crusher Spares Ltd, based in Minworth, Sutton Coldfield, is one of several West Midlands winners of the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise 2005. The small company of sixteen, who manufacture and supply spare parts for crushing, demolition and recycling machines, triumphed in the International Trade category due to massively increasing their exports.

Over the last three years, Advanced Crusher Spares (ACS) have seen their exports increase by 160%, an impressive figure that has also earned them export awards from the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce.
The nature of their industry means the company needs to respond quickly to customers’ enquiries. The machines are prime movers, and if the crusher breaks down the whole operation must stop, thus interpreting customers’ requirements is very important. As Business Development Director, Peter Youlton, pictured above, states:
“We have realised that when we can communicate in the customer’s own language, a quotation invariably turns into an order, and more often than not, with further items added as well.”
In order to maintain and increase international trade, ACS need to ensure they can communicate effectively with potential and existing customers. To this end they have designed a multilingual website enabling their services to be accessible in French, German, Spanish, and Italian. They also advertise their services in the appropriate local language thanks to their self-employed translators.
The Birmingham Chamber of Commerce has been a great help to ACS, especially the translation department, which the company uses regularly. They have also found that the local British Embassies in the countries they export to can provide useful information and guidance.
