Sources of funding

If you are involved in Vocational Education and Training (VET), work-based learning or you are an adult education provider or learner then you may be eligible for funding to enable you to visit another European country. This could be to complete a work placement, meet with and learn from other organisations or to update your skills and competences.

Ecotec, the UK national agency for Leonardo, Grundtvig and Transversal programmes, have produced information sheets for those who might be interested in participating in the programmes:

Leonardo da Vinci Programme

The Leonardo da Vinci programme is part of the European Commission’s new Lifelong Learning Programme and is designed to build a skilled workforce through European partnerships and improve the provision of Vocational Education and Training (VET) across Europe.

The programme allows you to send people to another European country for a work placement (mobility project) to enable them to gain experience and learn new ways of working, or to participate in European partnerships to produce innovative training materials.

Leonardo is open to all organisations involved in VET and you can apply for funding to organise meetings with potential European partners.

The next deadline for mobility applications is 27 June 2007 and for partnership projects 31 January 2008.

Transversal Programme

Grants are available under the Transversal Programme to contribute to the professional development of those involved in education and work-based learning.

Study visits enable individuals to participate in a week-long programme of activities in another European country, learning about education systems and practices, visiting schools and colleges, meeting practitioners and learning from employers, trade unions and sectoral bodies. It also gives you the opportunity to share your expertise with other professionals.

There are two study visit programmes:

  • Study visits for education specialists and decision makers.
  • Study visits for vocational education and training.

The next application deadline for the programmes will be October 2007.
