New forum launched to enhance links between Birmingham and China 30.07.07
The Birmingham-China Business Forum was launched at the end of last month, with the aim of enhancing relations between Birmingham and China.
The forum will become the main focal point for fostering and promoting business links between Birmingham and China, to help local companies benefit from China's thriving economy as well as bringing investment to the city.
Birmingham already has links with China, thanks to the sister city partnership with Guangzhou and the re-opening of Longbridge by Nanjing Automotive Corporation. It is hoped the forum can build on these existing relations by assisting local companies to forge business links, whilst promoting Birmingham as the place for Chinese companies to invest in.
Mike Whitby, Leader of Birmingham City Council, said:
"Justifying our position as a global city with a local heart, the Forum will ensure that Birmingham and the wider region benefits from the booming Chinese market through investment inward investment and export opportunities. This will reinforce our position as a dynamic and outward looking city."
Her Excellency, Madame Fu Ying, Chinese Ambassador to the UK, added:
"The launch of the 'Birmingham China Business Forum' is an excellent platform for the cooperation between enterprises. I trust that the forum will play a positive role in facilitating information-sharing, and promote trade and economic cooperation between our two countries to a higher level."
