Pupils from six schools join in big foreign language project 29.11.07
Pupils from six Kenilworth schools are joining forces to take part in a national government project that could benefit children across the country.
The Specialist Schools and Academics Trust are running the project for four years for the Department for Children, Schools and Family. The intention of the project is to find out if learning foreign languages in primary schools makes a difference on English and Maths standards.
Clinton, Park Hill, Priorsfield, St Johns, St Nicholas and St Augustine's were chosen because of their high standards of provision and capability of taking on such a project, which could raise standards and increase pupils learning.
The project logo, designed by nine-year-old Alexander Gyetvai from St Augustine's, incorporates globalism by using flags and greetings from various countries and a castle to represent Kenilworth.
Andy Mitchell, head teacher at Priorsfield, said: "We have lots of exciting projects planned for the next three and a half years that will inspire the children and staff in all our schools and hopefully take learning in the broadest sense to another level."
The schools have chosen to introduce a joint school council by having two pupils from each school to represent views and ideas over the next four years.
The student councilors, along with over 100 staff, attended a project launch event at the De Montfort Hotel.
The head teachers of the schools are keen to collect ideas and suggestions from individuals or businesses so they can represent the Kenilworth community accurately.
