New National Language Standards
CILT, the National Centre for Languages has recently completed a revised version of the National Language Standards – the scale of competence for languages within a work setting.
The Standards set out what you have to be able to do and the knowledge and skills you need to understand and use languages competently within the workplace. They are used to benchmark skills levels, identify the level of language skills needed to achieve business objectives and as a basis for qualifications.
The Standards are the product of consultation with employers, providers, awarding bodies, professional organisations and inspection/regulatory bodies. The revised standards are more user-friendly and now include new standards at entry level and for the first time, integration of the requirements of sign and spoken languages into a single set of standards.
