Churchill aims to boost overseas trade with website localisation - 31 March 2008
Pottery giant Churchill China is translating its Dining Out website into three languages to boost sales from mainland Europe.
Internet surfers will soon be able to read about the company in Spanish, German and French.
Spain is currently the company's biggest export market. The company hopes to enhance relationships with overseas customers by presenting information in their own language.
Chief executive Andrew Roper said he was keen to grow both its hospitality and retail businesses over the Channel:
"We have always been strong in Spain, in both the retail and hospitality businesses.
"When Spain joined the EEC we were one of the first of the major ceramics companies to send salespeople over there and try to design products for that market.
"We understand the importance of websites to the futures of our business, especially in their ability to enhance relationships with our customers."
Churchill, which employs more than 600 people at its sites in Sandyford and Fenton, announces its full-year results next month.
Last year, it doubled pre-tax profits to £5.7 million on the back of £47.8 million sales after benefiting from the smoking ban, as pub operators focused on food sales.
