Brasshouse Language Centre

Established in 1971 the Brasshouse Language Centre provides a unique and valuable resource for the West Midlands region. The Birmingham based centre teaches a wide variety of courses in thirty different Modern Foreign Languages and English as a Foreign Language and presents the opportunity to study in a truly multicultural environment.

 

 

Courses are open to people of all abilities and age groups. A wide range of examinations are on offer and courses can also be delivered for companies, on site. Family learning where children and adult family members can study a language together is also included. Translation and interpreting services cater for those communication needs outside learning a language.


Most courses start in September, but provided that the learner is at the appropriate level enrolment is possible throughout the year. Beginners can also make a start in January( Beginners), April ( Get by courses), and July (Taster Courses). Brasshouse Language Centre is open on Saturdays throughout the academic year for standard courses and one day intensive, refresher courses.

Brasshouse Language Centre offers courses leading to

  • GCSE, AS and A level
  • Certificate in Business Language Competence
  • Internationally recognised examinations in French, Spanish, Italian and German
  • Qualifications in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (CELTA, DELTA)
  • Business English courses
  • Residential language courses to Austria, France, Portugal and Spain
  • Asset Languages: a new accreditation scheme based on the Languages Ladder which will recognise achievement for smaller steps of language learning

 

Brasshouse Language Services provides customised language training for business and industry. This includes:

  • General business communication
  • Languages for specialist fields such as engineering, law and finance
  • Cultural briefings
  • Interactive and presentation skills

 

Brasshouse Translation, Interpreting and Accessible Information Services section of Brasshouse Language Centre (BTIS) provides a high quality specialised translation and interpreting service including conference interpreting. Recording of telephone messages in foreign languages, enlarged print, Braille and other alternative formats for effective communication with people with sight or hearing impairment are also available from this unit.
