Education publications
For those involved in teaching and education management there are a number of education publications which offer practical advice to help implement the National Languages Strategy, raise standards of language teaching and meet the needs of individual learners.

Other useful publications
National Language Standards
The National Language Standards have recently been revised and are a useful tool to benchmark levels of ability, recruit staff into positions requiring language skills and as a basis for language qualifications. The Standards are available to download from CILT, the National Centre for Languages.
National Standards in Interpreting and in Translating
These standards, designed to reinforce and enhance the status of practising interpreters and translators, provide a practical tool to benchmark skills levels and plan professional development. European Language Portfolio
The European Languages Portfolio is a personal portfolio in which those who are learning or who have learned a language can record their language learning and cultural experiences. It was launched on a pan-European level during the European Year of Languages 2001 as a tool to support the development of plurilingualism and pluriculturalism. The Portfolio aims to ensure mutual understanding and tolerance amongst citizens of Europe as well as promoting and protecting cultural and linguistic diversity. The European Language Portfolio consists of three documents which can be downloaded, free of charge, from CILT, the National Centre for Languages.
